Carl von Frankenstein

Carl von Frankenstein (* 1810 in Prague , Kingdom of Bohemia ; † July 5, 1848 in Graz , Styria ) was an Austrian electroplater , journalist , editor and publisher of several magazines.

Life

Frankenstein studied at the Graz Joanneum in 1836 and 1837 . From his main job as a galvanizer, he first ran his own factory in Moserhof-Schlössl , and later the Glacis in St. Leonhard nearby .

From May 1, 1838 to May 27, 1848, the “Inner Austrian Industry and Trade Journal for the Dissemination of Non-Profit Knowledge for All Stands” was published, in which he reported on technical inventions and improvements on a total of over 4000 pages. In the revolutionary year of 1848 Frankenstein published the "Politische Abendblatt".

Carl von Frankenstein died surprisingly in the summer of 1848 at the age of 38 from a stroke or a cerebral haemorrhage. He was married to Franziska von Frankenstein (born Leitmayer; † 1856) and had six children, two of whom had died during his lifetime.

Frankensteingasse , a side street off Graz's Ragnitzstrasse in the Ries district , has been named after Carl von Frankenstein since 1948 .
