Carla Bartheel , also written Karla (* July 5, 1902 in Schwientochlowitz as Charlotte Franziska Johanna Barthel ; † December 28, 1983 in Berlin ) was a German actress , photographer and author .

Life

Carla Bartheel received acting and singing lessons. A heart defect prevented the aspired dancer career. In 1926 she made her film debut with the female lead in "Salto mortale". Carla Bartheel played almost all of the supporting roles, often quarrelsome and angry women. In addition, she found engagements at various Berlin theaters, including the Barnowsky Theaters, and perfected her singing voice (soprano) with a teacher. She starred in films such as A Girl from the People (1927), Children's Souls Accuse You (1927), La storia di una piccola Parigina (“The Story of a Little Parisian Woman”, 1928) and The Dog from Baskerville (1929) . In 1930 Carla Bartheel went to Hollywood for three German versions of American films. In 1933, the fair-haired actress, who also appeared as a broadcaster at a young age, ended her less glamorous career with the leading female role of an American in Franz Wenzler's propaganda film Hans Westmar (1933).

Most recently without engagement, she switched to the profession of author. From January 1938 she officially worked as a photo reporter. In this role she traveled to northern Finland and photographed pictures for her book Adventure on the Eismeerstraße .

She was a member of the Association of German Writers .
