Carla Cico

Carla Cico (born February 21, 1961 in Verona , Italy ) was Chief Executive Officer at Brasil Telecom from 2001 to 2005 . She was named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World by Forbes Magazine in 2004 and 2005 .

Life

Carla Cico was born in Verona as the daughter of Lorenzo Cico and Francesca Provera. After graduating from school, she studied Asian languages in Venice , with a focus on Chinese . From 1987 to 1994 she worked on various projects for Italian telecommunications companies in Asia. She then returned to Italy until she was elected CEO of Brasil Telecom in 2001.

In 2005, an industrial espionage scandal involving the company Kroll Inc. was uncovered, in which Carla Cico was involved. She had the competitor Telecom Italia spied on. Cico later testified that she wanted to use it to collect evidence of illegal manipulation by the Italian company that could be used in court. As a result of the scandal, she lost her post at Brasil Telecom and was replaced by Ricardo Knoepfelmacher .
