Carles Simó

Carles Simó Torres (he is quoted as Carles Simó) (* 1946 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan mathematician.

Simó studied at the University of Barcelona , where he received his doctorate in mathematics in 1974 with Juan José de Orús Navarro ( The manifold of the Kepler orbits and the general perturbation theory ). At the same time, he also earned an engineering degree from the Catalan Polytechnic University. Since 1975 he has been a full professor of mathematics in Barcelona.

He deals with (Hamiltonian and dissipative) dynamic systems and celestial mechanics including the calculation of the flight paths of spacecraft.

In 2000 he gave a plenary lecture at the 3rd European Congress of Mathematicians 2000 in Barcelona ( New families of solutions of n-body problems ).

He is a member of the American Mathematical Society , the French Mathematical Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Academies of Sciences in Madrid and Barcelona.

Juan Morales Ruiz is one of his PhD students .
