Carlo (submachine gun)
Carlo ( Arabic كارلو, DMG kārlō ; Hebrew קרלו, qarló ) is the name for a handcrafted Palestinian submachine gun . This type of weapon has been manufactured in workshops in the West Bank since 2000 .
history
The Arabic word ( Arabic كارلو, DMG kārlō ) is a short form of Arabic كارلوجستاف, DMG kārlōgustāf , a local, slang term for a submachine gun, which earlier only referred to the Carl Gustaf M / 45 . Carlos, replicas of the M / 45, were used by Israeli-Arab criminals involved in drug trafficking in the West Bank around the year 2000 . The M / 45 was also produced in Egypt with a Swedish license until 1964 .
Have been the cost of a regular weapon risen - one M16 costs 15,000 US dollars , a Kalashnikov is traded up to $ 10,000, however, cost the cheapest Carlo $ 500 - Carlos used recently in terrorist attacks, including including the terrorist attack in Tel Aviv on June 8, 2016 . By mid-2017, the Israel Defense Forces had confiscated 180 Carlos in 29 workshops.
Origin of name
The Carl Gustaf M / 45 got its name, like the Gustaf Bazooka , from the Swedish state-owned Carl Gustafs stads gevärs developed in Eskilstuna . The name giver for the rifle factory, its products and the replicas is thus King Karl X. Gustav (1622–1660).
Technology and models
The large range of different self-made models, all of which are referred to as Carlo, is due to the individual production. In addition to retrofitted compressed air guns for paintball , the barrel of which is bored out to 9 mm on lathes , there are M16 handles and Uzi magazines, which are provided with a barrel made of a water pipe and fire conventional cartridges via a spring-operated ignition mechanism. Due to the lack of trains and the resulting non-existent twist , the simple weapon is imprecise in accuracy and very limited in range; yet deadly. The quality of the replicas was increased, however, and in early 2016 came close to the level of war weapons.
