Carlo Alberto Garufi
Carlo Alberto Garufi (born February 14, 1868 in Palermo , † September 16, 1948 ) was an Italian diplomat and paleographer with a focus on the Norman and Staufer history of Sicily.
He studied law in Palermo and lettere , as a degree he obtained the diploma in paleografia and the laurea in legge , each with the best grades. In 1905 he was appointed full professor of Latin palaeography and diplomacy after having been appointed professore pareggiato a few years earlier .
His editions of Norman documents, the register of the documents of the Archdiocese of Monreale and his editions of historiographical and memorialistic texts are still important. Not all of its results have stood up to recent criticism. His photo collection (with old glass plates) is also important, as many of the documents he recorded have since been lost. The collection was donated to the University of Palermo by his student Paolo Collura .
