Carlo Gianella

Carlo Gianella (* 1778 in Milan ; † 1863 ) was an Italian engineer .

Life

He worked as an engineer in Italy from 1797 and was involved in the construction of the road over the Simplon Pass from 1801 to 1805 , which Napoleon Bonaparte had built. The pass became of national importance because it was accessible for artillery .

He was also involved from 1809 to 1818 in the construction of the bridge from Boffalora sopra Ticino over the Ticino , which was an important link to Milan .

He held the post of General Director of Roads and Bridges of the Kingdom of Italy from 1805 to 1817 .

In 1834 he went to England to study construction there.
