Carlo Rainaldi
Carlo Rainaldi (* May 4, 1611 in Rome , † February 8, 1691 ibid), son of Girolamo Rainaldi , was an architect of the Roman Baroque , he was also active as a composer .
Life
First he learned from his father Girolamo and worked with him on numerous projects, such as B. at the Palazzo Nuovo or at the Palazzo Pamphili . After the death of his father in 1655, Carlos created major works such as Santa Maria in Campitelli , Sant'Agnese in Agone , Sant'Andrea della Valle and the two churches in Piazza del Popolo .
The staggering of free-standing columns is characteristic of its construction, as can be seen particularly in the church of Santa Maria in Campitelli.
In addition to his work in the architectural field, Rainaldi also devoted himself to the construction of tombs, such as the one for Pope Clement IX. in Santa Maria Maggiore and for Cardinal Carlo Bonelli in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva (1675). In 1681 he carried out the reconstruction of the Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento in Rome in the Baroque style.
