Girolamo Rainaldi

Girolamo Rainaldi (born May 4, 1570 in Rome , † July 15, 1655 ibid) was an Italian architect of Mannerism . He mainly constructed church buildings and was a competitor of Gian Lorenzo Bernini . His father was a painter, his son Carlo Rainaldi, born in 1611, a Baroque architect .

Girolamo Rainaldi was trained by Domenico Fontana and then worked with Giacomo della Porta , whom he succeeded as papal architect. In this role he was u. a. in the work on St Peter's involved. He was also active in Bologna .

Rainaldi is buried in Santi Luca e Martina in Rome.
