Carlo Wieth , born in Carl Andersen , (born December 11, 1885 in Copenhagen , Denmark ; † June 30, 1943 in Nødebo , Denmark) was a Danish stage and film actor .

Live and act

The son of the judge Marius Hans Lindegaard Andersen chose his stage name by adding an “o” to his actual first name and taking his mother's maiden name, Kristine Wieth, as the last name. From 1903 to 1905 Carlo Wieth trained at the Royal Theater (Det kongelige Teater) in Copenhagen, he made his official debut in 1905. From that year to 1909 and again from 1923 to 1943 he was a permanent actor at the Royal Theater. In 1907/1908 and 1909/1910 the Copenhagener joined the Dagmarteatret. Carlo Wieth worked at the Folketeatret from 1911 to 1922. In 1922 he went to Betty Nansen Teatret for a year, after which he made brief guest tours through his homeland.

Acting in front of the camera since 1910, Carlo Wieth soon became one of the leading silent film actors in his country. At the side of the screen idol Valdemar Psilander and the newcomer star Clara Pontoppidan , Wieth's wife since 1906, Carlo Wieth made his breakthrough on the big screen in August Blom's controversial film drama The Sacrifice of the Mormons . Together with his wife Clara, Wieth left Denmark in 1913 and moved to Sweden, where they continued their film careers for the next two years. Of his later films since his return to Denmark, only Carl Theodor Dreyer's first film, Leaves from Satan's Book, is worth mentioning. In the fourth episode, scolded by film critics as the weakest part, Wieth played the station master Paavo, who is harassed by Satan in the disguise of a Bolshevik. In 1922, Wieth temporarily withdrew from the screen and only appeared again in front of the camera after the start of the sound film era.

After the divorce from Clara Pontoppidan, Wieth married an actress a second time, Agnes Thorberg (1886-1981). While the marriage with Clara remained childless, Agnes and Carlo Wieth had a son named Mogens Wieth (1919–1962), who was also to become an actor. Carlo Wieth continued his career with talkies without ups and downs. He died during the German occupation when he suffered a heart attack while on a bike ride.
