Carlo Zuccari (born November 10, 1703 in Casalmaggiore ; †  1792 ibid) was an Italian composer and violinist of the late baroque and early classical periods. He worked mainly in Milan , Olomouc and London .

Life

Carlo Zuccari was a pupil of Count Gasparo Visconti , who in turn was a pupil of Arcangelo Corelli . He let him live in his house in Cremona and was one of his sponsors. At the same time he studied composition and counterpoint with Giuseppe Gonelli (1685-1745). In 1723 he first traveled to Vienna with his brother and was then court conductor for four years at the prince-bishop's court in Olomouc. He then stayed in a few German cities for a short time, returned to Cremona and in 1733 married the aristocratic Milanese singer Francesca Radaelli. The couple settled in Milan and lived in their mother-in-law's palace. Zuccari soon went on long trips abroad, so he lived in Paris for a year, where he consolidated his reputation as a violin virtuoso. Then he worked in London. After another stay abroad in Madrid, he returned to Milan according to the family's wishes. He became director of the "Accademia Filarmonica Milanese" and in 1765 had a collection of trio sonatas printed. From 1748 he was concertmaster in the "Capella Ducale" and from 1750 in Giovanni Battista Sammartini's orchestra.

In 1760 he was back in London, this time as a member of the Italian Opera Orchestra. In 1762 he published his violin method "An accurate method to attain the art of playing the violin", also in London. In 1765 he returned to Milan again and stayed there until 1778, the year in which he retired to his hometown Casalmaggiore. There he devoted himself to scientific studies of harmony and acoustics.

Among his students were Maria Teresa Agnesi Pinottini and the economist, philosopher, historian and writer Pietro Verri (1728–1797).
