Juan Carlos Aguilera Martín (born May 22, 1969 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career

Carlos Aguilera began his professional career in 1987 in the Atlético Madrid B team . A year later he moved up to the first team and played his first season in the Primera División . With Atlético he won the Copa del Rey in 1991 and 1992 . However, Aguilera was not used in either of the finals.

In 1993 he switched to CD Tenerife . In the 1995/96 season he qualified with the islanders for the 1996/97 UEFA Cup . However, he returned to his home club Atlético at the end of the season.

In 2000 , Aguilera rose with Atlético in the Segunda División . Two years later, his club managed to return to the Primera División. In 2005 he ended his active career.

National team

Aguilera made his debut on September 24, 1997 in Spain's 2-1 victory in the qualifying game for the 1998 World Cup against Slovakia in Bratislava for the Spanish national team . In the total of seven international matches that he played in 1997 and 1998, Aguilera remained without a goal.

After successfully qualifying, he was appointed to the Spanish squad for the World Cup in France , where he was used in the preliminary round matches against Paraguay (0-0) and Bulgaria (6-1).
