Carlos Zárate Fernández (born July 19, 1980 in Puertollano ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

Carlos Zárate won a stage at the Volta a Lleida in 2003 , two stages at the Cinturón a Mallorca , one at the Volta a Coruna and one at the Vuelta a Toledo . In 2004 he became a professional with the Spanish cycling team Comunidad Valenciana-Kelme .

In 2006 Zárate switched to ProTeam Saunier Duval-Prodir , which was involved in the Fuentes doping scandal . In a public letter in July 2006, Zárate stated that he had never used sports medicine doctor Eufemiano Fuentes , even if he was part of that team. The following year, he asked the UCI , the World Cycling Federation , to publish his values ​​in order to prove his innocence. Since this affair became known, he has suffered from severe depression. At the end of 2007 he ended his cycling career.
