Vuelta a Toledo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vuelta a Toledo is a road bike race that is held regularly in August in the Spanish province of Toledo . The organizer of the stage race was the "Eagle of Toledo" Federico Bahamontes up to and including the 2015 staging .

The competition was initially reserved for amateurs and was entered in the national Spanish cycling calendar, but had regular international participation. The race was considered preparation for the most important Spanish amateur tour of the time, the Circuito Montañés . Later, the Vuelta a Toledo served professional cycling teams as an important means of talent spotting. The most famous winners included the future professionals José Luis Viejo , Daniel Moreno and Juan Antonio Flecha .

The Vuelta a Toledo is usually held over four stages, including neither time trials nor mountain finishes, and is therefore often decided on the windy opening sections.
