Urmitzer Werth has been a nature reserve in Neuwied in the Neuwied district in Rhineland-Palatinate since 1957 . The 69.22 hectare area is located north of Urmitz, west of the Urmitz Rhine Bridge . It includes the Rhine island of the same name and wet meadows near the banks with the Engerser Rheinarm as a habitat for rare animal species, especially endangered bird species. When the tide is low, the island can be reached from the right bank of the Rhine with dry feet.

The protection purpose is the preservation of the area

  • as a habitat for rare animal species
  • especially rare bird species that are threatened in their population
  • for scientific reasons.
