Falkenau is an uninhabited rocky river island in the upper Middle Rhine , located at the level of the Volkenbach valley about 110 meters before the right bank of the Rhine from Kaub . The island is connected to the island of Kauber Werth, 850 meters upstream, via a tail unit 3 to 15 meters wide . Both islands belong to the Kaub district.
Falkenau is known for Pfalzgrafenstein Castle , a former customs office that dominates the small island. Because of the castle, a ferry boat commutes between the island and Kaub according to the schedule.
On the right bank of the Rhine, the federal highway 42 (here Rheintalstraße) leads past the island. Bundesstraße 9 runs along the left bank of the Rhine , and a few meters to the left of it is the main railway line, Linke Rheinlinie .
