David Plaza Romero (born July 3, 1970 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

In 1991 David Plaza won the Vuelta a Madrid , which he succeeded again three years later. Also in 1991 he won the Vuelta a Toledo and was third in the team time trial of the Mediterranean Games , together with José Ortega , Miguel Fernández and Álvaro González de Galdeano . In 1992, Plaza started the team time trial over 100 kilometers at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . Together with Fernández, González and Eleuterio Mancebo , he finished fifth. In September 1994 he became a professional driver for the Festina-Lotus team .

In 1999, Plaza won the Tour of Portugal . He took part in the Tour de France twice, but was only able to finish 22nd in 2003 when he was Jan Ullrich's team mate in the Bianchi team . In 2000 he won one stage and the overall ranking of the Deutschland Tour , and the following year the Vuelta Ciclista de Chile . At the Vuelta a España 2001 he reached his fifth of a total of seven participations with the sixth place his best placement on this tour.
