from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carmen Longo Swimming Stadium is a swimming pool complex in Bologna ( Italy ) and was built in the 1920s. Today it consists of two swimming pools with a 25-meter and a 50-meter pool directly at the Renato Dall'Ara stadium . The pool is still used today as a training and competition swimming pool.

The namesake Carmen Longo was an Italian swimmer who died in an airplane accident in 1966 on a competition trip to Bremen.

The 2nd European Swimming Championships took place there from August 31 to September 4, 1927. On September 2nd, the Swedish swimmer Arne Borg became the first person to swim the 1500 meter freestyle in under 20 minutes. The stadium was not covered during the European Championships. The steel and glass roof was designed by the Majowiecki architectural studio. Majowiecki has also worked on the Stadio Olimpico in Rome .
