Carol Louise Brown

Carol Louise Brown (born July 19, 1963 in Hobart , Australia ) is an Australian Labor Party politician . She has been a member of the Australian Senate for Tasmania since 2005 .

Professional background

Brown joined the lab at the age of 20. From 1984 to 1996 she worked as an employee of the party and then until 1998 as an employee of Senator Susan Mackay . Various activities with the Tasmanian government followed.

politics

After Mackay's resignation, the Tasmanian Parliament elected Brown on August 25, 2005 as her successor in the Australian Senate. She was able to defend her mandate in the regular elections in 2007 , 2013 and 2016 . Her work focuses on social and health issues. She is a member of parliamentary groups that deal with the population development of Australia, work to fight against Parkinson's and arthritis and support grandparents who raise their grandchildren. She is also a member of EMILY's List . Politically, Brown is one of Labor Left , the farther left standing faction of their party.

Brown was Deputy Whip in the Senate between September 2010 and September 2013 . After the 2013 parliamentary elections were lost, the new opposition leader Bill Shorten appointed them to his shadow cabinet . First of all, as State Secretary, she worked there on family policy and issues relating to wages and salaries. In July 2016, Brown became shadow minister and has since been responsible for people with disabilities and caregivers.

Private

Brown lives in Hobart with her partner and two children. Allison Ritchie , a former member of the Tasmanian Parliament, is her niece.
