Caroline, Duchess of Mecklenburg [-Strelitz], also Karoline ( Caroline Charlotte Marianne ; born January 10, 1821 in Neustrelitz , †  June 1,  1876 in Neustrelitz) was a member of the grand ducal house of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and by marriage from 1841 to 1846 Crown Princess of Denmark.

Life

Caroline Marianne was the daughter of Grand Duke Georg von Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his wife Princess Marie of Hessen-Kassel . On June 10, 1841, in Neustrelitz, she married the Danish Crown Prince Frederik, who later became King Frederick VII , who had divorced his first wife after an unhappy and childless marriage.

After five years of marriage, which also remained childless, Frederik also divorced Caroline Marianne in 1846, who returned to Neustrelitz and spent 30 years there. The Carolinenpalais was built for them in 1850 .

In 1860 she donated the funds to establish the Carolinenstift hospital in Neustrelitz .

She died on June 1, 1876 and was buried on June 7, 1876 in the princely crypt of the Mirow Palace Church.
