Marie Wilhelmine Friederike Princess of Hessen-Kassel (born January 21, 1796 in Hanau , † December 30, 1880 in Neustrelitz ) was the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz .

She was the daughter of Landgrave Friedrich III. von Hessen-Kassel and Rumpenheim (1747–1837) and Karoline Polyxena von Nassau-Usingen (1762–1823).

Marie married Grand Duke Georg von Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1779–1860), son of Grand Duke Karl II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1741–1816) and Princess Friederike of Hessen-Darmstadt (1752–1782) on August 12, 1817 .

Grand Duchess Marie was a talented painter. Above all, she made copies of famous paintings by old masters. The altar paintings in St. Laurentius (Schönberg) and in the town church Neustrelitz ( Carrying the Cross after Raphael Carrying the Cross (Raphael) , 1856) have been preserved. Their copy after Albrecht Dürer Christ on the Cross , which had been the altarpiece of the Johanniterkirche on the Schlossinsel in Mirow since 1868 , burned in 1945.
