Mehmed Zahid Kotku
Mehmed Zahid Kotku ( Ottoman محمد زاهد كتكو; * 1897 in Bursa , Turkey ; † November 13, 1980 ibid) was a well-known Islamic ( Sunni ) religious scholar in Turkey. He was one of the most influential Turkish sheikhs of the Nakşibendi order .
He spoke standard Arabic , Turkish and Persian .
Life
Kotku went to the Oruç Bey elementary school in Bursa and then to the university in Maksem . During the First World War he was drafted into the Ottoman army , which he joined on April 1, 1916. He fought in what is now Syria , which was then a province of the Ottoman Empire .
After the war, Kotku went to Istanbul and continued his studies in Islam . When Mustafa Kemal Ataturk had severely restricted or banned Islamic circles entirely, he returned to Bursa and married. Died when his father in 1929, he took over the role of the Imam in the Uftade - Mosque in Bursa; before that he had obtained his Islamic degrees.
In the following years he often changed mosques in the country, on October 1, 1958, he began his service in the Fatih Iskenderpascha mosque, where he remained until his death in 1980.
His funeral prayer was performed on November 14, 1980 in the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul .
