Carreña is a parroquia in the northern Spanish municipality of Cabrales in the autonomous region of Asturias .
geography
The place has a total area of 19.95 km² and in 2011 had 412 inhabitants. Carreña is located in the Picos de Europa National Park at an altitude of 189 m above sea level and is the capital of the municipality ( consejo ) of Cabrales. Carreña is 106 km from the provincial capital Oviedo on the Río Cares .

climate
The summer months are pleasantly mild, but also rainy. The winter months are also mild and only severe at high altitudes.
economy
Until the middle of the 20th century, the inhabitants of Asiego and Carreña lived mainly as a self-sufficient source of income from their fields and gardens and from raising cattle. Today tourism plays a not insignificant role in the economic life of the place. The most important and nationally known product is Cabrales , a blue mold cheese made from cow , sheep and goat milk .
