Carregado

Carregado is a place and a former municipality in the Alenquer district of the Lisbon district in Portugal . 11,208 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011) lived in the municipality on an area of ​​14.7 km². The community was elevated to Vila ( German small town ) on July 12, 1997 .

Opening of the first railway line in Portugal

The terminus of the first Portuguese railway line, which opened on October 28, 1856 at the Santa Apolónia station in Lisbon, was located at the Carregado station .

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Carregado and Cadafais were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Carregado e Cadafais . Carregado is the seat of this newly formed freguesia.

Sports

The place is home to the football club Associação Desportiva do Carregado in the Campo José Lacerda Pinto Barreiros stadium .
