Carrel is a small impact crater in the Mare Tranquillitatis . Due to a slight bulge in the northwestern edge, it has a distorted appearance. Its interior is also irregular with elevations and slipped material. The crater covers a ridge in the surface of the mare .

Before his name change by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1979, he carried the designation Jansen B . The Jansen crater, flooded by lava, lies in a northeastern direction.
