course
The Carretera Nacional N-VI led from the capital Madrid via Collado Villalba and Lugo to Betanzos, where it branched into two branches to the endpoints in A Coruña and Ferrol . This route was established around 1940.
In many sections, the national road has already been replaced or expanded to become the A-6 motorway. These are the Madrid - Collado Villalba and Adanero - Benavente sections . Between Collado Villalba and Adanero (70 km), between Benavente and La Coruña (329 km), the still existing N-VI runs parallel to the A-6 motorway .
The sections that were not expanded to form the A-6 motorway were partly rededicated to the Carretera Nacional N-VIa or continue to be called N-VI. These are the sections at Villalpando , Rueda (2.2 km) and Tordesillas (4.2 km). These mostly very short stretches were part of the historical route of the N-VI national road that ran through these villages. In the course of the A-6 motorway, however, bypasses were built so that the routes through the localities were preserved.
