Carsten Marell

Carsten Marell (born September 8, 1970 in Herten ) is a former German soccer player .

In his youth, Marell played for Vestia Disteln , Sportfreunde Herten and FC Schalke 04 , for whom he made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 13, 1988. The midfielder achieved his first professional goal on matchday 13 of the 1988/1989 season against SpVgg Bayreuth . The 18-year-old completed a total of 17 professional missions for the miners.

For the 1989/1990 season he moved to the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach , but was never able to assert himself there. In the first year he did not appear in the Bundesliga, in the 1990/91 season he made two short appearances. Marell then moved back to the second division for SV Meppen and played there in the following seven seasons a total of 211 second division games (8 goals). After the Emsländer relegated to the second division in the 1997/98 season, Marell moved to the Stuttgarter Kickers and thus remained in the second division. He played for the Degerloch team for three years and made a total of 81 league games (1 goal). With the relegation in the 2000/01 season, his engagement with the Stuttgarters ended and Marell was without a professional club for a year and kept fit with SC Echterdingen .

For the 2002/03 season he returned to the second division and strengthened the then promoted Eintracht Trier . After two seasons in which Trier had nothing to do with relegation, he rose for the third time in 2004/05 with a club from the 2nd division. Only on the last day of the match Trier slipped to a relegation zone. "Marello" played his 380th and last second division game on the 31st matchday of this season.

In the entire history of the second division, there are only twelve players who have made more than 380 Marell appearances.
