Carsten Stahl

Carsten Stahl (born October 30, 1972 in Berlin ) is a German TV series actor , martial artist and self-proclaimed violence prevention advisor. He is now best known as a nationwide anti-bullying trainer for schools.

Life

Stahl grew up in Berlin-Neukölln in the 1970s . Because he was not athletic as a child, he became a victim of bullying by classmates. He didn't trust adults to take effective countermeasures, so he didn't tell them about it for years. It was not until he was a teenager that he turned to sport, first football and tennis, later weight training, and gained respect for himself by “striking back”. As the leader of a criminal gang in Neukölln, he earned his living for many years after leaving school. Officially he worked as a fitness trainer . In 20 years of martial arts practice he achieved the black belt (1st DAN) in all style karate as well as advanced level in mixed martial arts and Krav Maga . It was only when he and his girlfriend at the time had children that he bought himself out of his “half-world entanglements” in 2007. Stahl then worked for a few years as a private detective and bodyguard .

With a small role on RTL II , he took part in a casting and was given the lead role in the series “ Private Detectives in Action ”. He played the heavily tattooed, muscular boss of a detective agency in a total of 289 series episodes from 2011 to 2014.

Stahl said he spoke to the principal of his six-year-old son when he was beaten at school. According to Stahl, he played down the case and did not want to take anything seriously. In 2014, he founded the citizens' initiative Stop Mobbing! in order to offer Berlin school principals to talk to school classes about violence in everyday life, drugs, discrimination and criminal behavior. After initial successes founded steel with other the carrier association "Camp steel" e. V. and was active across the federal states.

Live through the federal program Live Democracy! The German state finances the invitation of the anti-bullying trainer Stahl for schools in several federal states to participate in his violence prevention program with students and teachers, each lasting several hours.

In mid-April 2018, the reality TV series "Stahl: hart gegen Mobbing" began on RTL 2 with Stahl, in which he visits a school every week.

The large number of inquiries nationwide cannot be dealt with by “Camp Stahl” alone. Therefore, more and more local bullying prevention support centers were established.

Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey announced that she would spend an additional 20 million euros on anti-bullying professionals in 2018. The project is part of the National Prevention Program against Islamist Extremism decided by the coalition committee of the then federal government in 2017. Initially, it was planned to send around 170 anti-bullying professionals to those schools that wanted to accept this support. When these anti-bullying professionals officially started on November 16, 2018, as part of the federal program Respekt Coaches / Anti-Bullying Professionals , there were more than 200 social workers at 175 schools nationwide.

Stahl lives with his family in Berlin.

Controversy about Carsten Stahl's methods

The methods of steel are controversial. School psychologists from the city of Düsseldorf, for example, expressed concern that he was merely emotionalizing those affected, but not offering them any sustainable concepts or strategies for dealing with the problems on a permanent basis. Because of the lack of sustainability of its concept and the presumed exposure to stress for those affected, the "Camp Stahl" is neither funded nor recommended to schools in Düsseldorf. The Neukölln youth welfare committee decided in March 2019 not to work with Stahl's anti-bullying project.
