Cartosat-2 is an Indian earth observation satellite from the Indian Remote Sensing series. It was launched on January 10, 2007 with a PSLV-C7 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Center rocket launch site on Sriharikota. It orbits the earth in a sun-synchronous orbit and is equipped with a panchromatic camera that delivers images in the spectral range from 500 to 850 nm, with a swath width of 9.6 to 290 km and a resolution of less than 1 m. The planned lifespan of the satellite was five years, but Cartosat-2 is still in operation beyond that.
