The Casa del Cordón is a former hostel ( posada ) in Palencia , the capital of the province of Palencia in the autonomous region of Castile and León , which was built in the 16th century. The house on Plaza del Cordón has been a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) since 1962 .

History and description

The Renaissance- style house is known as the House of the Cord because the portal is adorned with the Franciscan cord . The decoration of the portal also includes the two coats of arms of the builders, Isabel Rodríguez Monroy and Francisco Núñez de Paz.

The interior of the building was modernized for the purposes of the museum.

Todays use

Today it houses the Archaeological Museum of the Province of Palencia ( Museo Arqueológico Provincial ), which opened in 1997 . The history of the region from prehistory to the high Middle Ages is presented on three floors .
