Cascate di Monte Gelato

The Cascate di Monte Gelato ( German : Monte Gelato waterfalls ) are a waterfall in Italy .

The waterfalls in the course of the Treja river are located 33 kilometers north of Rome in the municipality of Mazzano Romano in the province of Viterbo . They belong to the Valle del Treja Natural Park . The cascade, which is only a little more than two meters high, is not an impressive natural spectacle, but it is a delightful sight.

Despite their modest dimensions, the Cascate di Monte Gelato have gained special importance as they are among the most popular locations used in films . Since the striking waterfalls easily accessible from the Cinecittà - film studios were accessible from in a short time, they were in the 1950s and 1960s, the scene of scenes in a number of Italian films. Especially in the sandal films of the early 1960s, the Monte Gelato falls were a very frequently used and easily recognizable motif, but they also appear in fantasy films of the 1980s such as Ator - Lord of the Fire .
