Sarah Douglas (born December 12, 1952 in Stratford-upon-Avon , Warwickshire ) is a British actress .

Life

Sarah Douglas grew up in the home of William Shakespeare and wanted to be on stage at an early age. At the age of 14 she joined the National Youth Theater , with which colleagues like Robbie Jarvis , Timothy Dalton and Alec Newman have already toured.

To make a living, she first worked in a factory and in a hospital. She briefly studied acting and English in France , as well as at the Rose Burford Drama School , but dropped out in 1973 in favor of a role in The Final Program , based on the novel by Michael Moorcock , with Jon Finch and Sandra Dickinson .

The television series The Inheritors and other films followed. In Caprona: The Return of the Dinosaurs , she appeared in front of the camera alongside Doug McClure and Patrick Wayne in 1977 . Her best-known role is that of Ursa , which she played in the 1978 and 1980 film adaptations of Superman alongside Christopher Reeve , Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman .

From 1983 she worked in the successful prime-time soap Falcon Crest , in which she played the scheming Pamela Lynch for over two years until she left the series in 1985. In 1984 Douglas was seen again as a malevolent beauty in the barbarian film Conan the Destroyer with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Grace Jones on the big screen. She was also in series V - The Extraterrestrial Visitors Are Coming in some episodes.

Awards

In 1978 she was nominated for the Saturn Award for best leading actress in the science fiction category for Caprona - The Return of the Dinosaurs . Her competitors included Melinda Dillon , Julie Christie , Joan Collins and Carrie Fisher , who finally received the award for Star Wars .
