Alec Newman (* 27. November 1974 in Glasgow as Mark Newman ) is a British theater and film actor .

Life

Newman was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Sandy Newman, a member of the Scottish 1970s musical group The Marmalade . His family moved to London three years later , where he became an avid soccer player . He had to give up a sought-after professional career after a serious broken leg.

At 17, Newman first appeared at the National Youth Theater , where from his countless roles, especially his portrayal of Iago in Shakespeare's Othello , stood out. This was followed by further theater appearances and guest roles in numerous British television series , which led to his first major film appearance in Greenwich Mean Time (1999), for which he received consistently very positive reviews.

First Newman returned to the theater and starred in Plenty with Cate Blanchett and in a new production of Max Frisch's Andorra . First leading roles in international film productions such as Dune - Der Wüstenplanet (2000) and Frankenstein (2004) with Donald Sutherland and Julie Delpy followed .
