Melinda Dillon

Melinda Ruth Dillon (born October 13, 1939 in Hope , Arkansas ) is an American actress .

The character actress Melinda Dillon had her greatest theatrical success at the beginning of her career. She starred in the US premiere on Broadway in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee and received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in 1963 . Since 1969 she has been seen in films again and again. She received two Academy Award nominations for her film work . Her first in 1978 for Close Encounters of the Third Kind and her second in 1981 for Die Sensationsreporterin .

Although she has made regular films since her film debut to this day, her film selection was most successful in the five years between the Oscar- nominated This Land Is My Country and The Sensational Reporter .

She was married to actor Richard Libertini from 1963 to 1978 , with whom she has a son.
