Richard Libertini

Richard Libertini (born May 21, 1933 in Cambridge , Massachusetts , † January 7, 2016 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Richard Libertini's parents immigrated to the USA from southern Italy. His mother tongue is both English and Italian. Libertini graduated from Emerson College in Boston , then worked as a musician. He later moved to New York City , where he exhibited the Stewed Prunes revue with his former schoolmates . In 1969, he joined in the play Do not Drink the Water of Woody Allen on; in the same year the play was filmed with Libertini in one of the roles.

Libertini starred in the adventure comedy Popeye (1980) by Robert Altman on the side of Robin Williams . In the comedy Solo for 2 (1984) he played the role of Prahka Lasa , a guru who causes the transmigration of souls, alongside Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin . In the comedies Fletch - The Troublemaker (1985) and Fletch - The Jack of all trades (1989) he played the role of Frank Walker , the boss of Irwin Fletcher ("Fletch"), played by Chevy Chase . In the film drama Nell (1994), he played alongside Jodie Foster , Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson , the role of the physician Dr. Alexander Paley . In total he worked on more than 100 productions.

Libertini married the actress Melinda Dillon in 1963, and the marriage, which was divorced in 1978, has a son. The actor died in January 2016 at the age of 82 after developing cancer.
