action

Tom Sharky is an Atlanta drug investigator . When an undercover mission goes wrong, Sharky is held responsible and transferred to the moral department.

Friscoe is made aware of an exclusive escort service by the arrest of the prostitute Mabel. One of those noble whores, Dominoe, who is paid $ 1000 a night, has a very special client, Hotchkins, who is a candidate for future governor. This is what Sharky and his new partners, the veteran "Papa", Arch and the surveillance specialist Nosh discover as they monitor Dominoe's apartment.

During one of the surveillance activities, Victor comes to Dominoe's apartment. Dominoes has been working for him since she was a young girl, but now she finally wants to get out. Victor agrees, but he forces her to have sex with him one last time.

The next day, Sharky witnessed Dominoe (apparently) being shot through her front door from a sawed-off shotgun on the surveillance equipment. The hit destroys her face beyond recognition. By monitoring with binoculars and listening to their phone calls, Sharky developed feelings for her. The killer is the drug addicted brother of Victor Billy (Henry Silva). It turns out that Hotchkins is also paid by Victor and the affair with Dominoe posed an incalculable risk.

But to Sharky's surprise, Dominoe was not shot. She reports that her friend Tiffany was using her apartment and was accidentally shot by Billy. Sharky hides Dominoe in his childhood home in the West End neighborhood. Meanwhile, Nosh informs Sharky that most of the police surveillance tapes have disappeared.

Sharky confronts Victor at his penthouse apartment on the Westin Peachtree Plaza and vows to bring him to justice. Victor feels safe because he believes Dominoe is dead and cannot testify against him. When Sharky reveals that she is still alive, he is stunned.

Sharky is taken to a boat where Smiley, who also stole the surveillance tapes, tortures Sharky by cutting off two fingers. He wants to know where Dominoe is hiding. Sharky manages to free himself, shoots Smiley and escapes. Sharky and Dominoe later meet with Hotchkins at a political rally and confront him. Hotchkins is placed under house arrest, and Victor finds out on the evening news.

Billy kills his brother Victor. Sharky and the other cops break into Victor's penthouse, they want to arrest Billy. Billy is finally shot by Sharky, causing him to fall 200 meters through a window to his death.

Awards

Actress Rachel Ward was nominated for the 1982 Golden Globe Award in the Best New Actress category.

criticism

The lexicon of international films judged that the film was “routinely staged”, but had no “inner tension and substantive depth”.

background

Stuntman Dar Robinson fell 220 feet (67 meters) from the Atlanta Hyatt Regency Hotel for the film . The jump still holds the record for the highest distance in free fall for a commercially released film. Although it was a record jump, only a small part of it can be seen in the film. During the majority of the fall from the skyscraper, a doll can be clearly seen in the film. The 1979 hit, Street Life by The Crusaders , used in the opening credits , was also used by Quentin Tarantino in Jackie Brown (1997).
