William Diehl
William Diehl (* 4. December 1924 in Jamaica, Queens , New York; † 24. November 2006 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was a US -American novelist , journalist and photographer .
Life
At the age of 18 Diehl joined the US Army and took part in the Second World War for three years as a member of the Army Air Forces. He was decorated with several medals for bravery. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He then worked as a successful photographer and journalist for many years, including for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , New Orleans Magazine and Cincinnati Magazine . From 1958 to 1963 he was the official photographer of Martin Luther King .
It was only at the age of 50 that he began to write thrillers. His first novel "Sharky's Machine" (1978) became a bestseller, which was filmed in 1981 by Burt Reynolds . His other eight novels include the bestseller “Primal Fear” (1992), which was also filmed with a star cast.
Diehl lived in Woodstock , Georgia and died of an aortic aneurysm in 2006 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta . A tenth novel remained unfinished.
