Casino company
Casino companies were founded as social associations after the bourgeois revolution in France . The name is derived from the Italian word casinó , which means "venue". Mostly they represented an association of male representatives of the bourgeois upper class ( civil servants , officers , clergy , landowners , manufacturers , doctors , business people ) in a city and were used for leisure activities . Mostly people gathered around a pool table in a local pub . In addition to billiards and card games, the latest news was discussed. Casino companies thus became important centers of communication for the emerging middle class in the 19th century. Quite often the discussions also ended in initiatives to improve the living environment. Ballrooms, sports facilities , parks and open-air swimming pools can also be traced back to the activities of casino companies. The "Casino Cologne, an association of educated and agreeable men" was founded in 1809 under the name "Societé". Members of the Cologne Casino Society were among the co-founders and leading members of the Rose Monday Society , to which the Cologne Carnival goes back. Today, the name “casino company” is often synonymous with a building in which such a company once operated. With the DC circuit during National Socialism , most casino companies took first on. In many cities, the historic casino buildings were regained after being re-established. The societies have evolved and are in the process of regaining their old importance on a national scale.
