The island of Casone del Cornio Vecchio or Cason (del) Cornio Vecchio is located in the south of the Venetian lagoon , west of the entrance to Malamocco on the small Canale del Cornio; this flows into the northward flowing Valgrande Canal, which in turn flows into the main canal to Mestre and Marghera , the Canale Mestre-Marghera. The island has an area of 1,335 m² or 0.1335 hectares .

There is only one house on the island, but it has fallen into disrepair. This type of house is called Cason (e) di pesca ; they are considered to be the simplest and probably also the oldest structural structures on the islands and serve the fishermen as accommodation, storage and landing stage for their boats. 'Casone', derived from 'casa', means 'big house'. The name was known by the middle of the 16th century at the latest, because it appears at Cristoforo Sabbadino , the representative for the Venetian waters.

Today the island is still occasionally visited by fishermen and now and then by visitors.
