The Caspar-David-Friedrich-Gesellschaft eV is a public company founded in 1998, which is a non-profit and registered association based in Greifswald, dedicated to the painter Caspar David Friedrich .

tasks

The Caspar David Friedrich Society has set itself the goal of preserving the legacy of the painter Caspar David Friedrich and promoting its dissemination. The tasks include research on the life and work of Friedrich, exhibitions, guided tours and publications. The society operates the Caspar David Friedrich Center in Greifswald, praises the Caspar David Friedrich Prize and organizes the Caspar David Friedrich Lectures at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald .

history

The association was founded in Greifswald in 1998. Since 2004, the company has been operating the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Zentrum in the rear building of the Lange Straße 57 building complex with the historic Friedrichschen soap boiler at Friedrich's birthplace and has its headquarters there. In 2008, a Caspar-David-Friedrich-Bildweg was set up in Greifswald. In 2011 the Caspar David Friedrich Center was expanded to include the renovated front building and a gallery was set up. The company is managed by a four-person executive board, chaired by Hannelore Kohl . From 1999 to 2014 the art professor Dagmar Lißke was chairwoman of the society.

Caspar David Friedrich Prize

The Caspar David Friedrich Prize has been awarded since 2001. It honors innovative approaches in contemporary art. Art students who are educated at Friedrich's biographical locations in Greifswald, Copenhagen and Dresden can apply. Artistic works are to be submitted for the competition, which deal with current issues relating to the relationship between man, nature and art and which are mentally related to the work of Caspar David Friedrich. The prize is endowed with 2,000 euros, an exhibition in Greifswald and the publication of a series of postcards.
