Marten Schech (* 1983 in Halle (Saale) ) is a contemporary German sculptor , installation artist and percussionist .

Life

The sculptor, who was born in Halle (Saale), was involved in monument conservation from 1999 to 2004. From 2008 to 2015 he studied with Wilhelm Mundt at the Dresden University of Fine Arts , at the University of Leeds and the Düsseldorf Art Academy and graduated with a diploma. He lives and works in Berlin and Dresden . Because of the narrative qualities of their traces of use and their grown uniqueness, he works his sculptures and installations from old building materials and partially reproduces them with new materials. His sculptures are subjects with their own story. For his sculptures of architectural sculptures, "Architectural plants", he is also inspired by the Chamaechorie , the spreading strategy of plants via wind and fruits, e.g. B. the steppe roller. He received the Caspar David Friedrich Prize in 2017 for his architectural sculptures, some of which are made from historical materials .
