Castanopsis diversifolia is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia. The nuts are edible.

Castanopsis diversifolia is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are studded with simple spikes . The spines are straight, close together and completely cover the surface of the fruit cup. The fruit cups, including the spines, are at least four centimeters in diameter, usually 4.5 to 6.5 centimeters. They stand individually.

The nuts are egg-shaped or spherical, around the umbo there is a spherical indument .

Flowering time is February to November, mostly February to August.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , Myanmar and Laos . It grows in deeper and higher evergreen mountain forests, in bushes and deciduous mixed forests over granite subsoil. It occurs at altitudes of 700 to 2200 m, mostly 1000 to 1500 m.
