Castanopsis pierrei is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia. The fruits are edible.

Castanopsis pierrei is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are covered with branched spines . They partially cover the skin of the fruit cup and are densely hairy. The fruit cups have a diameter including spikes of at least four centimeters. They are usually bilobed and sparsely hairy on the inside. The fruit is sessile without a stalk.

Flowering time is January to December. The fruit ripens from April to December, mostly April to June.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand and Cambodia . It grows in lowland rainforests, in pine - oak - dipterocarpus forests, in damp mixed deciduous forests along river banks. It inhabits heights of 10 to 350 m above sea level.
