Castanopsis schefferiana is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia.

Castanopsis schefferiana is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are covered with branched and simple spines . The spines are scattered, woody, curved and bare. Each fruit cup contains two to four nuts and opens with four (rarely three) flaps when dry.

Flowering time is February to December, mostly November and December. The fruit ripens from July to December.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , Malaysia and Singapore . It grows in the evergreen lowland rainforest, in shrub vegetation and in mixed deciduous forests at altitudes of 100 to 400 m.
