The Castello Chiola is a hilltop castle on a hill above the Italian municipality of Loreto Aprutino in the province of Pescara .
history
The first historical sources mentioning the castle date back to 864 and refer to a Longobard fortress that became an outpost of the Normans in 1071 . One after the other, the castle fell to the D'Aquino families (1330–1571), financed by the D'Avalos (from 1449), and the Caracciolos . The Counts of Loreto were also guests there.
In 1843 the castle became the property of the Chiola family , who lived in it until 1995 and took care of the restoration in a new 16th century style. The castle now serves as a hotel and congress center .
description
The castle is surrounded by an enclosure wall from which one can see the facade of the castle, in the middle of which there is an arched portal with a balcony above. Next to the portal are two windows in a classical style.
The entrance leads into a reception hall that leads to an inner courtyard currently covered with a structure made of glass and aluminum.
