The Castello Notarile di Derby is a medieval castle in the Derby district of the municipality of La Salle in the Aosta Valley .
History and description
According to various sources, the castle was originally built as a notary's residence . From the 12th to the 16th century it belonged to the nobles Lachenal , and then became the property of the notary Vernaz .
For André Zanotto, on the other hand, the building does not have to date from before the 16th century.
The castle, which consists of numerous structures, is in good, restored condition. The windows made of processed soapstone , in which the characteristic keel arches can be found, as well as the entrance gate, which is decorated with floral motifs and above which you can see the coat of arms of the House of Savoy , are remarkable .
The complex served agricultural purposes for a while. An old outdoor stove of little value was restored in the 1970s. According to a legend, an underground corridor is said to connect the Castello Notarile with the Castello Giudiziario di Derby in the same street.
