Castillo Mier y Pesado is a building with park on Avenida Oriente 6 in Orizaba , Mexico , that following the example of Windsor Castle was built.

history

The name of the building complex goes back to the couple Antonio de Mier y Celis (1834–1899) and Isabel Pesado de la Llave (1832–1912). Antonio de Mier, who came from a millionaire family, was a Mexican diplomat and ambassador in Paris for many years . Isabel Pesado was the daughter of the Mexican politician José Joaquín Pesado, born in the city of Orizaba .

After Isabel Pesado de Mier's death, her sister Trinidad Pesado de Rubín was appointed executor and founded the Fundación Mier y Pesado on July 2, 1917 at the request of Doña Isabel in the estate . It has been located in Castillo Mier y Pesado, which was built in 1936, since it was completed in 1944 .

In the Castillo there are two schools (the “Instituto Mier y Pesado para niñas” for girls and the “Escuela Mier y Pesado para niños” for boys) as well as two accommodations for older people (the “Casa de Salud Mier y Pesado” and the “Casa Hogar Mier y Pesado ”).

Recently, however, there have been efforts to convert the Castillo with its social facilities into a shopping center for the US giant Walmart . These plans are rejected by many citizens in Orizaba: "If necessary, we will defend the house with stones."
