Castillo de Molina de Aragon
The Castillo de Molina de Aragón is a castle near the Río Gallo in Molina de Aragón , a municipality in the province of Guadalajara in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha ( Spain ), which was built in the 12th century. The castle, on the slope of the mountain above the village, is a protected architectural monument .
History and description
The previous building, an Arab fortress , has been handed down as early as the 10th century. In 1129 the region was recaptured under Alfonso I , King of Aragon and Navarre .
On the top of the mountain stands the main tower, which is surrounded by a wall and connected to the rest of the castle by a long wall. Around this facility there is an enclosure ring with originally six towers, four of which are still preserved today.
