The Castillo de Mombeltrán is a castle in Mombeltrán , a municipality in the province of Ávila in the autonomous region of Castile and León ( Spain ), which was built in the Middle Ages . The castle standing on a hill is a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ).

history

Beltrán de la Cueva , a favorite of Henry IV , had the castle built from 1461. It was built as a richly furnished palace for the builder, who was banned from the court of the Spanish king in 1463. The castle is surrounded by a front wall with a steep slope . The castle itself is built on a pentagonal ground plan and has cylindrical corner towers. Walls and towers are provided with loopholes and battlements .
