Castillos is a city in eastern Uruguay .
geography
Castillos is located in the eastern part of the Rocha department in its sector 5 . Further settlements in the area are the Barrio Torres , which is about one kilometer southeast of Castillos, and La Esmeralda , located on the south Atlantic coast , several kilometers away to the east-northeast, and Aguas Dulces to the southeast . North of the city is the Cerro de los Rocha . In the western part of the urban area, Castillos is traversed by the stream de la Tapera .
history
The city was founded on April 19, 1866 with the laying of the foundation stone of the local chapel under the name of San Vicente Mártir de Castillos . On November 3, 1952, Castillos was granted city status by Law No. 11,875.
Infrastructure
Castillos is connected to the traffic route network via Rutas 9 (kilometer point 265) and 16 , which cross in the urban area .

As part of the 2011 census, 7,541 inhabitants were determined, 3,525 of them male and 4,016 female.
